The only word I keep saying is 'amazing'. I feel much calmer whenever I see the images you send out. You clearly plug into a lot of creative sources. Thank you James.
The eldest son of a family friend had just graduated in medicine at UQld in the early 2000s. Days later, driving with his girlfriend, he turned right, & not seeing an approaching truck, died in his girlfriend’s arms.
The ‘best & brightest’ all make mistakes. His, unintended, not only ended his life, but has caused lifelong pain to all who knew him. It upsets me to this day: he was a very fine young man.
Had he turned five seconds earlier or later, he would have been OK. Apparently the lights on the truck were not switched on at the time, near dusk.
Great articles. My favourites pictures are skull with the butterfly and Woman in the seashore. I'm not much after technically crafted eclipse. But this just me! Thanks for the article and pictures.
Loved this, James. You’re right — timing isn’t just luck, it’s presence. These photos show what happens when we pay proper attention, patient enough to let the moment arrive. They don’t just capture beauty, they remind us that presence itself is an art form. Maybe that’s why the right moment feels so magical: it asks us to be fully here, ready to notice when everything quietly aligns.

Wowwwwwwwwwww! My nerves felt so frayed today, and these words and images smoothed them. Thank you!
Your feed is often the very best thing on Substack in any given day :-)

Amazing words and photos. Thanks for the wonderful brain break I just experienced 😍
And wrong timing can be disastrous.

Los sientos,,, I feel your loss… insha Allah 🙏
All of these are so beautiful and incredible! But I agree, the woman by the sea is amazing!
A picture proves it once happened, but it also proves we are now outside of it. That tension is the root of nostalgia.
